Majid Jowhari, Liberal MP for Richmond Hill (Ontario), was slammed for his posts regarding the demonstrations in Iran which began as protests against the economy and quickly turned political when protesters started to demand freedom for political prisoners and an end to the repressive Islamic regime.
“As our government is closely monitoring the ongoing protests in Iran; it is my sincere hope that the brave nation of #Iran have the opportunity to air their legitimate financial, social and political concerns with the support of their elected government, in a secure environment and without the fear of persecution” Jowhari tweeted and posted on his official Facebook page on December 30, 2017.
The reaction was swift and brutal.
You must be ashamed of yourself calling any representative of Islamic regime in Iran an elected government by Iranian people ….. stop supporting a regime that has no value for human rights which is the biggest supporter of terrorism in the world.
As an Iranian Canadian who is living in Richmond Hill, I am very disgusted with Majid Jowhari’s remarks. Shame on Majid Jowhari!!! By taking side with the Iranian regime, he seems to be representative of the Iranian regime rather than people of Richmond Hill. Everybody knows except Majid Jowhari that as long as the clergies are in power, there can be no true election in Iran. Therefore, Rohani is not a legitimate elected president as you claim.
“Elected government”? Are you paid by the Islamist regime of Iran to put out this sort of disinformation?
Majid is what Lenin called a useful idiot of the Iranian state! He’s never spoken out against funding of terrorists–Hezbollah and Hamas–he sends Cdn $$$ to Hamas.
You will go down in history for supporting the regime.
Shame on you! You are a member of parliament in a democracy but don’t know what an elected government means.
That “elected government” is a tyrannical theocracy. Those protesters are just asking for the basics in live. What’s wrong with you?
In 2016, Jowhari came under fire for endorsing an e-petition organized by the Iranian Canadian Congress (ICC) urging the Liberal government to re-establish relations with Iran, which were severed by the previous Conservative government. In 2012 Harper expelled Iranian diplomats from Ottawa and formally listed Iran as a state sponsor of terrorism under the Justice for Victims of Terrorism Act. The decision to suspend diplomatic relations was based on Iran’s support for the regime of Syria’s Bashar al-Assad, sponsorship of terrorist groups and genocidal threats against Israel.
In response to the petition, 15 Iranian-Canadians wrote a letter to Prime Minister Trudeau calling for Jowhari’s resignation over his “ethical incompetence”. “We are very disappointed that he is working very hard to allow Iran’s Revolutionary Guards terrorist members to put their foot on Canadian soil”, the letter said.
Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ clandestine branch “Quds Force” is designated by the Canadian government as a terrorist entity for extraterritorial operations, and for exporting the Iranian Revolution through activities such as facilitating terrorist operations. According to Public Safety Canada, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force provides arms, funding and paramilitary training to extremist groups, including the Taliban, Lebanese Hezbollah, Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command (PFLP-GC).
